On this week’s show, The YP’s football writers Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall, join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest issues surrounding the Yorkshire football scene.<br/><br/>They start at the New York Stadium and what needs to happen next at Rotherham United after relegation after just two seasons in the Championship was confirmed and how they avoid being a yo-yo club between the second and third tiers of the English game. <br/><br/>Sheffield United remain near-certainties to go straight back down to the Championship but it seems they are going down fighting, putting in a battling performance in a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool before snatching a point in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. <br/><br/>Huddersfield took one step forward and two steps back, following up a 1-0 win over Millwall with a 4-1 hammering on the road at Preston – do they have what it takes to beat the drop? Likewise Sheffield Wednesday who fought back to grab a 2-2 draw against Norwich City following on from a 2-0 win over QPR – do they have what it takes to beat the drop?<br/><br/>And, at the other end of the Championship table, Leeds United fell to their first league defeat of 2024 at possibly the worse time, their chances of automatic promotion not helped much later in the week when they were held 0-0 at home by Sunderland. _young-girl-dies-and-two-women-injured-after-being-hit-by-car-in-birmingham.webp "A young girl has died and two women injured after a car ploughed into them on a residential street in Birmingham. <br/><br/>Emergency services rushed to Upper Highgate Street, in the Highgate area of the city, after four pedestrians were mown down at 9.45pm yesterday (Sun).<br/><br/>Paramedics battled to save the child but she was confirmed dead at the scene while two women were taken to hospital with serious injuries.<br/><br/>A second child was also assessed by ambulance crews but did not require any further treatment. <br/><br/>West Midlands Ambulance Service said three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and two critical care paramedics were sent to the scene.<br/><br/>A service spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found a car and four pedestrians had been involved in a collision.<br/><br/>“A child, female, was in a critical condition and ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support.<br/><br/>“Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, she could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.<br/><br/>“Two women were treated by medics for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and were conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment.<br/><br/>“A fourth patient, a child, was assessed by ambulance crews but was not injured and so was discharged at the scene.”")
